| Michael S. Glaser, Maryland Poet Laureate: | | "Like rivers surging toward the larger sea, details leap toward metaphors of understanding about the human condition. Crist's poems are marked by her desire to see the macrocosm in the microcosm. Through fable and myth and legend she explores the larger meanings of the human condition, the hungers of the human heart." |
| Clarinda Harriss, English Department Towson University and Director of New Poets Series & BrickHouse Books: | | "What a terrific read! Magic and myth rustle sonorously in the pages of Vonnie Winslow Crist's latest collection, River of Stars. Here is a book rich in mysteries which the poet has made tangible. Exciting stuff!" |
| Dr. Gary Blankenburg, English Teacher & Director Eclectic Press: | | "These poems by Vonnie Winslow Crist are populated by dark birds & wolves that haunt a nature transformed by myth & magic. Here are the rhythms of moon & tide orchestrated into a concert of language steeped in the love of mystery. There is throughout a sense of reverence for & celebration of moment to moment life as a gift & sacrament..." |
