Frosty, winner of the national book award, "Children's Choices 2004" given by The International Reading Association and The Children's Book Council, is the exciting sequel to Blackjack. The story continues the adventures of Heather Richardson and her horse Blackjack. In addition, the story introduces a new character, a rare gray Morgan named Frosty. Through Frosty, Heather realizes that not all horses are meant to be show ring superstars. Although disappointed at first, she soon discovers that Frosty's real talent lies in the area of trail riding, and it isn't long before Heather loves this sport. She and Frosty become trail buddies and must learn to trust each other if they are to survive the woods of Vermont...

| Writer's Digest: | "Frosty: The Adventures of a Morgan Horse is a delightful book with an
eye-catching cover. It combines the unbeatable combination of horses and drama,
and teen readers, especially girls, will love it. From the first chapter, it
captures the reader's interest and sets up an engaging plot: how is this girl
going to buy this horse and what will happen if she does? For any kid who loves
animals, this is a must read. I especially liked the way the author puts both
horses and Heather in jeopardy, yet gets them out convincingly without creating
a boring or pat ending. The tension goes right up into the last few pages, and I
think readers will really enjoy the feeling of being around stables and arenas
and the beautiful horses. The writing is so descriptive that you really feel
like you are right there with Heather, Frosty and Blackjack throughout the
entire book. This would be a great book for anyone who loves horses or animals
in general. Great idea!"

| Midwest Book Review: | "The adventurous sequel to Ellen F. Feld's novel, Blackjack, Frosty: The
Adventures of a Morgan Horse is a thoroughly delightful novel for young readers
about a girl and her relationship with powerful and noble animals. Heather
Richardson, owner of the horse Blackjack, is entrusted with a rare gray Morgan
named Frosty. Heather learns to her disappointment that not all horses are meant
for the show ring, yet she also discovers that Frosty's strength lies in trail
riding as she and Frosty must learn to work together to survive the woods of
Vermont. Frosty is a story to be cherished by horse lovers of all ages." |
| Horses All Magazine: | "...This is a very engaging read for horse-crazy pre-teens who will keep turning
the pages as author Ellen Feld skillfully weaves horse care and training
information into a very entertaining story about the adventures of a young girl
who loves Morgan horses." |
