Eclairs & Bandsaws description:
|
|
|
The Toledo Blade newspaper called Eclairs & Bandsaws the perfect way to, "satisfy a craving for witty writing."
Tom and his team of researchers sifted through tens of thousands of online personal ads to come up with some of the most passionate, endearing, and sometimes crazy writing anywhere.
It immerses you in the creativity (and challenge) of describing and understanding relationships, self, and love.
These are 21st century love stories where the plot is simple, the characters are two, and the end of the story has yet to be written.

| Toledo City Paper: | Thomas Waniewski produces the early morning show at WTOL, but previously owned dial-up Internet service provider Access Toledo. Waniewski was looking for a creative way to market his business, and he noticed the astounding number of people who were using the Internet to place and respond to personal ads. He became curious and began looking himself.
“As I began to read them, I was touched by the honesty and poignancy in what they were writing. I had always heard and been of the impression . . . that the online ads were for a bunch of geeky, can’t-get-a-date-any-other-way wallflowers who sit in their house and are afraid to talk to people. And as I started to look at these, I thought, these are wonderful.” Waniewski’s marketing idea turned into a fascination with the culture of online dating, and he began collecting the best personals he came across. The top 115 made the cut for Eclairs & Bandsaws. |

Scott Greggory:
I've read all the other books about online personals - Crullers & Claw Hammers, Bagels & Drill Presses, Maple Logs & Monkey Wrenches - but Eclairs & Bandsaws is by far the most enjoyable. Tom Waniewski has compiled a sometimes funny, sometimes quirky sampling of online ads from folks in the market for long walks on the beach with John and/or Jane Q. Perfect. One surprise: not one of the 115 personals includes the phrase "morbidly obese." This is a fun read and an interesting study of 21st century courting.

Deborah Duke:
It is a supreme display of the need for love and affection. It definitely pulls at the heart and shows a softer side of the human soul. A plethora of views on our quest for the perfect partner.

Dennis Bova, The Toledo Blade:
"This is the kind of book you can enjoy, put down, pick up later and satisfy a craving for witty writing from people who want to be loved. The title is made clear only near the end, and by then it doesn't really matter because you've had fun along the way."
