Becoming Ann: A Baltimore Childhood description:
This charming memoir captures the essence of growing up in Gardenville, a Baltimore neighborhood, during the Great Depression and World War II. From struggling to master the intricacies of Palmer penmanship to facing her doubts about Catholicism, Ann Hennessy recounts the joys and woes, the successes and failures of her childhood and adolescence.

The author's happiest memories are of summers spent with her favorite aunt on Maryland's Eastern Shore, where she experienced First Love with all its ecstacy and anguish.

Howard McIntyre:

Having grown up in Baltimore during the same period as Ann, I found her book very interesting. I read it in one sitting. The places, people and times of which she writes is very much of my memory of Baltimore (and the Eastern Shore.) I dated girls the went to several Catholic schools in Baltimore, visited the amusement parks that Ann did, and generally was familiar with the various places that she frequented both in Baltimore and the Rock Hall area on the Eastern Shore.
Ann is and incredibly giving person.

Becoming Ann is a good read! HEM
